Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Line Decoration, Stamped "PAUL : CUSHMANS," Albany, NY origin, circa 1810, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, flared rim, and unusual incised circumferential wavy line above the impressed mark of Albany, NY pottery owner, Paul Cushman. Albany-slip-glazed interior and unusual streaky whitish slip coating to areas on exterior surface. Provenance: Found decades ago in the northeastern U.S. Partially-filled and colored top-to-bottom crack from rim on front, which continues a few inches onto underside, where it forms a Y. Additional partially-colored, in-the-firing crazing to underside, not visible on interior. One rim chip and a few short and very minor lines in rim molding, possibly in-the-firing.
