One-Gallon Ovoid Stoneware Jar, Stamped "PAUL : CUSHMANs," Albany, NY origin, circa 1810, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, tall collar, and thick semi-circular handles, featuring the deeply-impressed mark of Albany, NY pottery owner, Paul Cushman. There is no cobalt in the lettering, but rather a later dark colorant added to enhance the mark. Nice form. Provenance: Found decades ago in the northeastern U.S. Base broken out and reglued with a 1" sliver-shaped surface chip at base on reverse, additional thin cracks extending up to shoulder area, heavy chipping to rim, and a few base chips.
