Possibly Unique Bristol-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher and Mug Set with Incised Sailboat Scene, Inscribed "Globe Fishing Club 1904" and Dated "Mar 17 - 1906", attributed to the Wingender Pottery, Haddonfield, NJ, ovoid pitcher with footed base, coggled collar, and ornate molded handle, featuring a highly unusual, incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a fishing yacht with American flag, including elaborate water and reeds below and foliate decorations to the left and right. Incised above "Globe Fishing Club 1904" and at base "mar 17- 1906". The pitcher includes five cobalt-banded mugs, with the incised and cobalt-highlighted initials "G.F.C." for "Globe Fishing Club". Exceptional decoration with wonderful subject matter. This set is the first related to a fishing club we have seen. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor years ago. Pitcher in excellent, essentially as-made condition. Some minor chips to some mugs. One mug with a short, faint line from rim. Another mug with short in-the-firing line from rim. H (of pitcher) 11".
