Two Glazed Redware Jugs, attributed to the Thorn Pottery, Chesterfield, Burlington County, NJ, early 19th century, two ovoid jugs with footed bases, rounded spouts, and heavily-ribbed handles, their surfaces covered in dark lead-and-manganese glazes. Examples of this form with publication history, also attributed to the Thorn Pottery, exhibit the same distinctive handles. This pair of jugs was found in New Jersey, not far from the kiln site on the Thorn family farm. Shorter jug with surface wear, a thin crack to edge of handle, and a minor base chip. Taller jug with base chips, wear to surface, chips to edge of handle, and two small spout chips. H (of taller jug) 10 1/4".
