Scarce Sgraffito Redware Sugar Jar with Fish and Bird Decorations, Incised "William Folley His Shugar (sic) Pot / August 28th 1811," Signed "Philip Pittler / Makr," English origin, 1811, ovoid form with applied handle and slip-coated surface, featuring a sgraffito decoration of a fish eating a smaller fish as well as two ring-necked birds. Incised by the potter within two medallions on reverse, "Philip Pittler Makr" and "Philip Pittler". Pot broken and reglued. Significant flaking to surface. Restoration to an approximately 2 1/2" section of rim on reverse. H 6".
