Fine and Rare Glazed Redware Jar with Incised Line Decoration, probably Norwalk, CT origin, second quarter 19th century, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with wide mouth and applied lug handles, decorated with an alternating incised design of wavy lines and combed banding, underscored by a dramatic band of wave-shaped combing. Surface decorated with daubs of manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Excellent form with unusually elaborate incised decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Southeastern Virginia collection amassed decades ago. Rim chips. Otherwise excellent condition. H 8 3/4" ; Diameter 7 5/8".
