Extremely Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Chamberpot, attributed to J. Swank, Johnstown, PA, circa 1875, ovoid pot with footed base, flattened rim, and applied handle, decorated around the body with eight groups of vertical cobalt swags. Additional cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Only the second Swank example of this form we have seen. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from an Eastern U.S. collection. A 1 7/8" chip to rim molding, adjacent to a 1 1/2" line in rim molding. A minor in-the-firing rim chip. Two salt drips to body and a salt drip to underside. H 5 3/4" ; Diameter (across top) 9 1/2".
