Small-Sized Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Cream Jar, Stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1890, ovoid jar with narrow base and semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in cream-colored slip and decorated with heavy splotches of green and brown. Impressed with S. Bell & Son maker's mark on shoulder. Excellent size and color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased decades ago in the Mid-Atlantic region. Five flecks of glaze loss to body. A small in-the-firing, glazed-over rim chip and a small post-firing rim chip. Other very minor rim wear. A faint 3" hairline from rim, as well as a faint 3" surface line from rim, which is not visible on interior. H 6 1/2".
