Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Fantailed Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with turned head and fan-shaped tail atop a stylized branch. 2 1/2" crack from rim on left side of crock. 3 3/4" vertical surface line on reverse. An additional 3 3/4" Y-shaped surface line on reverse. 5" tight Y-shaped line on front. Several rim chips, some of which are filled and colored. A filled and colored surface chip to upper left of crock's front. Small shallow chip and minor nick to left handle. Small chip and thin line in right handle.
