Very Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pig Flask, Signed "Anna Pottery / 1889," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, molded and salt-glazed flask in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, one side featuring the incised and cobalt-highlighted inscription "St Louis the Future Great / With a little Good / Old Rye in a Pigs- / Anna Pottery / 1889". Remainder of flask profusely-decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted railroad map of the Midwestern U.S., including the following landmarks: Miss River, Dunluth, Peoria, Rock Island, Moline, C. & A., O. & M., Chester, Grand Tower, Purcy, Pinckneyville, Springfield, Bloomington, Murphysboro, I.C.R.R., M & O RR, Cairo, ICRR, Carbondale, Duquoin, Tamaroa, Centralia, Kankakee, Pullman, CV & C RR, Vincennes, Mound City, Tunnel Hill, Anna, Chicago the Corn City, and Cincinnati the Pork Packing City. Unusual Albany slip highlights to eyes. This flask features excellent color, crisp incising throughout, and a particularly well-executed face. Salt-glazed pig flasks by the Kirkpatricks are significantly rarer than Albany slip examples. One of the finest Anna Pottery pigs we have offered in recent years.
