Rare Manganese-Decorated Redware Bowl, Stamped "J. BELL," John Bell, Waynesboro, PA, circa 1840, with canted sides and triple-beaded rim, the interior edge decorated with heavy manganese sponging and center decorated with additional sponged manganese daubs. Impressed on exterior with early "J. BELL" maker's mark. Few bowls bearing this particular John Bell maker's mark have survived, and this example is the first we have offered. Its early date of manufacture is coupled with an early-style, triple-beaded rim related to Bell's Hagerstown, MD training. Excellent condition with some minor nicks to exterior of rim and minor surface wear to interior. H 3 3/8" ; Diameter 11 1/4".
