Extremely Rare Stoneware Wax Sealer Inscribed in Cobalt "Hewitt," Isaac Hewitt, Jr., Rices Landing, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and wax sealer rim, featuring the cobalt script inscription "Hewitt" running vertically down the side of the jar. Rim area decorated with straight and wavy freehand stripes. Examples of Western PA stoneware with freehand potter's signatures are highly unusual. A filled 1 1/8" rim chip. Two additional minor, shallow rim chip. A few minor nicks to inner wax sealer rim. Two small filled chips to shoulder at base of the letter "H" in "Hewitt". H 6 1/4".
