Very Rare Stoneware Centennial Mug with Liberty Bell Decoration, attributed to Aaron Radley, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1876, cylindrical, molded mug with recessed underside and applied strap handle, decorated with a large impressed and cobalt-highlighted decoration of the Liberty Bell with 1776 date. A signed example, sold through Crocker Farm, Inc. in 2012, indicates the mug was made in Philadelphia, PA, probably by a potter named Aaron Radley. Only the second example of this type we have seen. Thin, in-the-firing surface line along seam line, not visible on interior. A tiny, partially-filled chip to rim on reverse. A minuscule filled surface chip to upper section of bell. Very minor rim wear. H 4 5/8".
