Early Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ, fourth quarter 18th century, approximately four-gallon ovoid jug with heavily-tooled, wide-mouth spout, decorated with a stylized slip-trailed "watchspring" design at the shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Large area of restoration on left side of jug, continuing onto front below decoration. Several base chips. Typical short lines on underside, continuing onto base, probably in-the-firing. Some short, tight lines on left side of jug, some of which are filled and uncolored.
