Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Fantail Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA NY," third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a running bird with fan-shaped tail atop a stylized vine. Reverse with a large sealed X crack with small reglued piece. Additional large colored cracks on reverse and underside. Thin horizontal crack at base on side / front of crock, continuing onto underside. Thin, short crack from rim on side of crock. Small rim chips. One handle chip. Some old pinkish paint to opposite handle, not related to any repair. Thin crack from rim on side of crock. Some fry to cobalt.
