Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant on Stump Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S. UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jug with rounded spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, spotted body, and long tail, perched on a stylized tree stump flanked by shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. In-the-firing glaze drip to shoulder to right of maker's mark. Three lines in handle, which do not extend entirely through handle. Three contact marks, visible on sides and reverse of jug. Some discoloration to surface. A few minor base chips.
