Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1850-1880, cylindrical crock with footed bae, large squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with three brushed cobalt swags on the front and reverse, applied over streaky whitish slip. Impressed "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO" under one handle. Included with this lot is a vintage brochure for the Renfrew Museum and Park in Wayneboro, PA, as well as a 1977 letter from the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce, which discusses the history of Bell pottery and briefly mentions the butter crock in this lot. Crock with a 3 1/2" hairline from rim, as well as a second inverted 3 3/4" Y-shaped line on exterior, partially visible on interior. Crock in otherwise excellent condition. Ephemera with fold marks and typical wear. H 4 3/4" ; Diameter 8 1/4".
