Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HARRISBURG PA.," attributed to John Young, Harrisburg, PA, circa 1856-1858, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flower with shaded petals and leaves, the petals interspersed with added flourishes. Slip-trailed "1" at shoulder. Excellent size and decoration with scarce, early Harrisburg, PA maker's mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, acquired by the consignor's father in the 1950s or 1960s. A tight line extending from spout to shoulder. Two other light lines in shoulder. A few shallow chips to edge on underside.
