One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Floral Decoration, Southeastern PA origin, circa 1860, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled collar, and stepped rim molding, decorated around the body with a brushed cobalt swag and hanging flower decoration. Collar additionally decorated with cobalt swags. An in-the-making loss to foot was smoothed over and brushed with cobalt prior to the firing. Losses to spout. Two rim chips on reverse, one of which is glazed over. Y-shaped hairline on underside, which becomes very thin and extends approximately 5 1/2" up reverse of pitcher, where it forms a second Y. Contact mark below handle on reverse. Some in-the-making, glazed-over scratches to front.
