Scarce and Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry H. or Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical cooler with footed base, tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and large circular bunghole. Front of cooler decorated with a large flowering plant extending from the bunghole. Reverse decorated with a swag and tassel-shaped flower motif. Additional cobalt highlights surrounding bung hole and handle terminals. Cobalt wavy line decoration under each handle. Includes antique wooden spigot. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a long-term Mid-Atlantic collection consigned to this auction. Small rim chip on front with 2 1/2" hairline descending from it. 1 1/2" Y-shaped hairline from rim above left handle. Faint 2 1/4" Y-shaped surface line on right side of cooler's front, not visible on interior.
