Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled collar, decorated with two tulips extending up the front. Collar decorated with brushed cobalt leaves. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed "R.C.R. / PHILA" on side of collar. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in the Midwestern U.S. Partially-colored reglued wedge extending from right side of spout to area on left side of rim, measuring approximately 3 1/4" long. Restored chip on interior of rim. Minor nick on reverse at base of rim molding.
