Very Rare Anna Pottery Stoneware Billhead, Anna, Illinois, Dated Dec 2, 1882, to Mess. Penningrath Schreiber & Co., with printed heading "BOUGHT OF C. & W. KIRKPATRICK, / PROPRIETORS OF / THE ANNA POTTERY / MANUFACTURERS OF STONEWARE OF ALL KINDS / DEALERS IN PORCELAIN, FIRE AND ALBANY SLIP CLAY". Billhead includes hand-written notations for Crocks, Churns, Jars, and Jugs of various gallonages, the order being a total of 241 gallons of ware. An interesting notation at base reads "We are out of 4 gallon Jars". A fine example of ephemera related to one of most America's most highly-regarded potteries of the 19th century. Billheads related to the Kirkpatricks' Anna Pottery are considered very difficult-to-find. Included in a mahogany gilt-edged frame. Billhead with typical light fold marks, light soiling to left edge, and an approximately 1 1/2" tear at base. Dimensions (of billhead): 8 1/2" x 7" ; Dimensions (of frame): 12" x 10".
