Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Uniontown, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip, underscored by three freehand stripes. Additional brushed stripe below rim. Top of rim impressed with distinctive Morgantown, WV three-gallon capacity mark, although the decoration is more typical of Uniontown, PA. Provenance: Descended to the consignor in a Western PA family. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a tiny, glazed-over nick to shoulder and minor stone ping at base.
