Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to James or William Leet Hamilton, Greensboro, PA, circa 1860, finely-potted pitcher with squat, highly-ovoid form and tooled collar, the body profusely-decorated with a vine bearing five large fuchsia blossoms. Collar decorated with inverted swags. Spout decorated with vertical wavy line designs. A fine example from the Hamiltons\' early years of stoneware production in Greensboro. Few pitchers from this period have survived. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in Pennsylvania. Small chips to right side of spout. Two additional chips on right side of rim, one of which is visible on interior. Minor nick to left side of rim. Very faint, approximately 2\" hairline in left side of collar. Some wear to surface.
