One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Virginia origin, circa 1820-1830, ovoid jar with tab handles and tall collar with thin, rounded rim molding. Decorated on front and reverse with a stem bearing two leaves accented with dashes. Cobalt accents to the handle terminals. Good form and strong decoration. Base chip. Wear to surface around midsection. Three rim chips and a 1 1/2" chipped section to rim. 1" piece of clay adhered to jar. 7/8" chip to handle, beside a small nick. Additional light wear to handle. Shallow 5/8" chip to opposite handle, along with some additional lesser wear to same handle. Several tight lines to body of jar, some of which are barely visible on interior.
