Great Road Redware Canning Jar with Incised Line Decoration, Southwestern VA or Eastern TN origin, mid to late 19th century, cylindrical jar with footed base, tall collar, and narrow opening with semi-rounded rim, the shoulder decorated with an incised wavy line between two circumferential incised bands. Surface covered in a heavy lead glaze. The firing conditions this jar experienced has created variations in color to the glazed surface. Provenance: Found in Sullivan County, TN. 1/4" hole drilled in underside. Base chips. A few very minor rim nicks. Tiny hole to shoulder. A very tight line to shoulder. Two very minor flakes to surface. A very thin sliver of in-the-firing residue to surface. H 7".
