Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "PRUDEN & OLCOTT, / 185 DUANE ST NY," Elizabeth, NJ origin, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, concave rim molding, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip plant bearing two large blossoms. Made during a brief partnership between Elizabeth, NJ potter, J.M. Pruden, and a New York City merchant, Augustus Olcott. A rim chip on front and reverse. Some minor nicks on interior of rim. A chip to one handle. Three small chips to opposite handle. Two chips and small iron ping at base on reverse. Two chips on underside at edge, one of which has a 1 3/4" horizontal surface line extending off from it. 5" surface line on underside. Some light fry to spots of cobalt.
