Unusual Four-Gallon Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Starburst Decoration, Stamped "E.G. ROBINSON / CHATHAM 4 CORNERS NY," New York State origin, circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a finely slip-trailed design of a starburst with heavily-spotted center. Additional dotted floral trails between the rays. Slip-trailed "4" at shoulder. Rare "CHATHAM 4 CORNERS N Y" advertising, strong decoration, and excellent color. Filled and colored 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" spot to a flake or hole below handle on reverse. Some minor in-the-firing surface lines to upper handle terminal. Minor spout chip. Base chip.
