Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Large Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1865, narrow, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and tall collar with squared rim, the front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering urn. Urn features a pedestal base, open handles, and spotted, oval-shaped moldings, with a large floral design extending from the mouth. Design includes a large, well-detailed daisy, smaller daisies above, various leaves, curled stems, and dotted trails. Stylized grasses at base of urn. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Includes larger, Albany-slip-glazed lid from another churn. Outstanding, artistically-rendered design. Desirable form and maker. Approximately 4" x 7" area of professional restoration to base on left side of churn, with a small amount of touch-up to cobalt at very base of decoration. Large x-shaped crack in underside. Rim chip on reverse. Wear to edges of lid.
