Unusual Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with thick rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stylized branch. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable small size. 2 3/4" Y-shaped line to left side of crock's front, not visible on interior. Some spidering hairlines near base on reverse, which are difficult to see. A stained spot on reverse. Smaller stained spot to bird's tail on front. Spots of fry to bird. Two short minor surface lines in rim, not visible on the interior.
