Very Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Tree Decoration, Stamped “C.W. BRAUN / BUFFALO N.Y.,” circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a heavily slip-trailed design of a tree flanked by two bushes. A highly unusual and visually-appealing design. Includes a tightly-fitting three-gallon churn lid. 5” Y-shaped hairline on right side of churn. Two faint, minor hairlines from rim, measuring approximately 2 1/2” each. A few faint surface lines, not visible on interior. Small stone ping at end of one handle, visible on reverse. Thin crack to lid.
