Extremely Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Bird-in-Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a crested bird with spotted wing and striped tail, hidden among a cluster of grapes. A highly unusual design with outstanding color, decorating a rare Harrisburg form. Handle with minor 3/4" line and tiny nick. Some water glass residue to rim area. Rim chips.
