Rare Two-Gallon Slip-Decorated Redware Jug, Whitewater, WI origin, second half 19th century, ovoid jug with large rounded spout and applied handle, decorated with brown slip leaf extending from a long curving stem. Brushed slip "2" above. Surface covered in a lead glaze over a colorful mottled orange ground. 8" in-the-making horizontal gash in clay at base. Long meandering Y-shaped line in glaze, extending around body of jar, which is denoted by a darker color to the surface. Scratches, wear, and spots of missing glaze to surface, some of which are in-the-firing contact mark. Wear to spout. Lesser glaze wear to handle, including a tight horizontal hairline through handle, a small stone ping to edge of lower handle terminal, and a small chip to opposite side of lower handle terminal. Some shallow chipping to base on reverse and shallow flakes to underside near edge.
