Unusual Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Impressed Floral Decoration, New Jersey origin, circa 1830, approximately four-gallon ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted floral design featuring a central four-petaled blossom flanked by leafy vines. Reverse with brushed three-petaled flower. Handles and undersides of handles accented with cobalt dashes. 1 1/4" smooth in-the-firing chip on interior of rim with 1 1/2" surface line extending from it on top of rim. An additional 2 1/4" shallow area of in-the-firing wear on interior of rim. 5/8" chip on interior of rim beside an additional small chip. 5" hairline from rim on front. 3" hairline from rim on reverse. 2" hairline from rim on side of jar.
