Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Wax Sealer, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded rim with wax sealer interior, the front decorated with a stenciled cobalt design of a bell. This design is often referred to as a "mammy" decoration for its resemblance to a woman in dress. Some wear to surface of front. 8" crack on reverse, extending onto underside where it forms a Y. Two base chips. H 10 3/4".
