Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "ALBANY NY," third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with applied lug handles, rounded shoulder, and nicely-potted flaring collar, the front decorated with a folky design of a flower blossom with swirled interior, underscored by a looping line. Excellent color and visually-appealing abstract design. In-the-making base chip. Some in-the-firing crawling to cobalt slip. A few shallow chips to one handle. Some wear to opposite handle and a tiny nick below. A minor rim nick on reverse. Some spots of wear to inner rim where a lid would rest. Tight 6" Y-shaped line to left of decoration.
