Outstanding Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Eagle and Banner Decoration, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHPEEKSIE, NY," circa 1870, straight-sided crock with handles, slip-cup-decorated with a very large, flying eagle holding a banner in its beak. Eagle depicted in a folky manner with dotted and striped wings, crested head, and large eye. Banner accented with numerous slip-trailed dots. Maker's and capacity marks highlighted in cobalt, with the word "POUGHKEEPSIE" misspelled as "POUGHPEEKSIE." A bold figural decoration. 2 1/2" line from rim. Light flaking on right side of crock, which does not affect decoration. H 12".
