Outstanding Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Tulip Decoration and Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1835, ovoid jar with flared rim and applied tab handles, heavily-decorated with three brushed tulips extending up both sides. Highly unusual abstract wavy line decoration under each handle. Includes a Philadelphia stoneware lid with cobalt swag decoration, third quarter 19th century. Excellent form and stunning decoration. A 3/8" shallow rim chip and other much smaller rim chips. Two small chips at edge on underside. Other small base nicks. A small chip to end of one handle. In-the-firing vertical separation on interior, not visible on exterior. Chip to knob of lid, a shallow 1 1/2" chip to flange on underside of lid, and other minor chips to flange.
