Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Farm Scene Depicting a House and Man with Whip Driving a Horse, probably CT origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and semi-rounded spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted farm scene. Decoration depicts a man with whip or stick leading a horse, a house with nine windows, two doors, and a smoking chimney, a tree with bird, a fox or dog below the tree, and two bushes at each end. Incised decorations depicting an entire scene such as this are almost unheard of, with only a few examples in existence. An outstanding example with great folk art appeal. Professionally-restored handle. Heavy chipping to base. A few in-the-firing contact marks to front, including a small in-the-firing chip below decoration. H 15 3/4".
