Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird on Branch Decoration, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO.," Charlestown, MA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with thin semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed design of a crested bird with spots, perched on a flowering branch with three different blossoms. Excellent decoration. Some very faint surface lines on underside, probably in-the-firing. An in-the-firing 2 1/4" separation line on interior, also visible on exterior, above left side of left handle. A 4 1/2" hairline to right of left handle. Three additional hairlines from rim on front, measuring 3 1/2", 2 1/2", and 4 1/2". Some old painted touch-up to these hairlines. Some painted touch-up to rim. 4" hairline from rim on reverse. 2 1/2" hairline at base on reverse, which becomes very faint and continues several inches onto underside.
