Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Manganese Drape Decoration, New Jersey or Manhattan origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and open loop handles, decorated on both sides with a brushed manganese drape accented with spots. Additional decoration around handle terminals. Incised "X" on underside. 1 1/2" glazed-over iron ping on one side, above a smaller iron ping with iron drip. 4 1/2" crack from rim with small surface flake. 3 3/4" and 3" hairlines from rim. 3/4" in-the-firing chip / contact mark to side of jar near base. Base with two iron pings, a glazed-over chip, and two additional small chips.
