Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "C. CROLIUS," Clarkson Crolius, Jr., Manhattan, NY, circa 1835, tall, semi-ovoid jar with thin rim and large lug handles, decorated on the front and back with a brushed cobalt drape design. Large cobalt highlights additionally run the length of each handle. Excellent color. 2 1/4" x 1 3/4" smooth shallow base flake on reverse, which is probably an in-the-firing flaw. A few base nicks and other shallow in-the-firing base chips. 5" Y-shaped surface line on side of jar, not visible on interior. An additional 4" surface line from rim on reverse, not visible on interior. Bottom of jar is rounded and does not sit perfectly flat.
