Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Running Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, decorated with a boldly slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed "running" bird atop a stylized branch. Excellent color. A few small spots of fry to decoration. Spidering, glazed-over line on reverse, measuring approximately 8". Glazed-over 4 3/4" line at base on reverse. A few small, in-the-firing contact marks to left side of jug.
