Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletailed Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, angled rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a vibrant brushed and slip-trailed design of a paddletailed bird with crest, perched on a flowering vine. 1" base chip and a minor 1/2" base chip, both on right side of crock's front. 1 1/2" glazed-over base chip on reverse. Thin curving crack at base on side of crock, extending onto underside where it forms a 6 1/2" Y. 5" vertical surface line on reverse. Two chips and a minor nick at edge of underside. 1/2" bit of loss to cobalt on bottom right of decoration and other very minor wear to decoration.
