Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER, / NEW-YORK," Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, circa 1815, finely-potted, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled neck, rounded spout, and strap handle, decorated with a brushed cobalt drape design below the maker's mark. Additional brushed cobalt daubs to handle terminals. Excellent size and form. A tight spidering line at base, with one part of line becoming very thin and extending 3 3/4" up side of jug from base. Another section of line extends 1" onto underside. An additional tight, fairly faint horizontal line extending around base of jug. Some surface wear around midsection. A shallow, glazed-over 1" base flake. A 1/4" glazed-over base chip. A few very minor base nicks. H 8 7/8".
