Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Coggled Bird Decoration, attributed to the Morgan / Van Wickle Pottery, Old Bridge, NJ, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and tapered collar with rounded rim, the body decorated with a cobalt-highlighted, coggled design of a bird holding a leaf in its beak. Potter's fingerprints throughout body of jar. Attribution based on sherds recovered by Robert J. Sim Shard from the Van Wickle & Morgan Pottery site, Old Bridge, NJ, now at the New Jersey State Museum, Trenton, NJ. Excellent condition with some in-the-firing dryness to surface and a some very faint surface lines near base, presumably in-the-firing. H 8 1/8".
