Rare Southern Stoneware Flowerpot with Kaolin Slip Decoration, Edgefield, South Carolina origin, second quarter 19th century, tapered pot with coved rim molding and original drain hole in underside, the shoulder decorated with slip-trailed kaolin drape and tassel design over an unglazed clay ground. A rare survivor from a highly-regarded center of stoneware production in the American South. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, found a few years ago in a South Carolina home. Tight 4" crack with tiny bit of clay apparently reglued at bottom edge of rim molding. Otherwise minor wear. H 6 3/4" ; Diameter (at opening) 8 1/2".
