Stoneware Bottle with Cobalt Initials "J.C.," Northeastern U.S. origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical bottle with tapered spout, featuring the large slip-trailed cobalt initials, "J.C.," accented with spots on interior. Shoulder additionally impressed "J.C.," although portion of "J" was not fully impressed into clay. Thin 2" surface line or hairline on side of bottle. Shorter glaze line near base. Small spout chip with very short thin lines extending from it. Shallow base chip with short line extending from it. An additional minor, in-the-firing chip at edge on underside. Narrow 1 1/4" flake on underside, possibly in-the-firing. 3/4" circular, discolored spot near base, caused during the firing by an iron ping that did not fully erupt.
