Five-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of two tulips and two tulip buds extending from a leafy stem. Excellent size, color, and decoration. Some scattered exfoliation to shoulder area on side of jar, including some flakes to handle. Two small, shallow chips to end of same handle. Faint 3" Y-shaped surface line on reverse, not visible on interior.
