Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Midwestern origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flared collar ending in a semi-squared rim, the front decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip extending from a slip-trailed stem. Shoulder with slip-trailed "4," underscored by dashes. Some light flaking to a stained area at base on reverse. 7 1/4" crack from rim to right of decoration. Shallow glazed-over rim chip. Minor nick and worn area to end of one handle.
